The new illustration is very pretty.
And that’s the problem. Growing up with these books, half the point was that the illustrations were more likely to give you nightmares than the stories themselves. Look at the example above: I’m sorry, but if kids aren’t getting an image of an open flesh wound with spiders crawling out of it, how are they going to survive in our modern world?
